Welcome to Bury St Edmunds Trout Club.
We are a members only fly fishing club located near Lackford and offer both river and stillwater fly fishing. The club controls the section of river upstream from Lackford Bridge up to just below Fullers Mill Garden. It is marked on the map on this page. The club is currently involved in a number of restoration projects and ongoing maintenance work on the river. Please find some information regarding these works on the stewardship section of this page.
Fish poaching is a criminal offence under the Theft Act 1968. Bury St Edmunds Trout Club is working closely with Suffolk Police and the EA to stop poaching in West Stow Country Park.
To fish the WSCP stretch of river, anglers must have an active BSETC membership and an EA rod licence. Our fishery is catch and release therefore no fish should be taken or killed unless there are mitigating circumstances.
Fishing without a rod licence is a criminal offence. Fishing without a club membership is theft of fishing rights.
If you see an active poaching crime in progress, call 999. Do not put yourself at risk, avoid confrontation, and take photos if you can do so safely.
Members of the club will all be fly fishermen who fish through the river, and have a long flexible fishing rod with thick line that they cast back and forth through the air. All BSETC members will be happy to answer questions.
